NextNav today released a national Public Policy Polling survey indicating overwhelming bipartisan support for the creation of a ground-based complement and backup to America’s Global Positioning System (GPS). The poll found that voters support this initiative by a margin of ten-to-one, with majority support seen across various demographic categories such as gender, political party, and age groups.
The survey, conducted by Public Policy Polling from January 24-25, 2025, interviewed 1,133 registered voters nationally. A significant finding was that nearly 7 out of 10 (68%) of voters agree that creating a GPS backup represents an urgent national security need for the United States. Only 12% disagreed with this assessment.
Ed Mortimer, NextNav’s Vice President of Government Affairs, stated that officials across the government have highlighted the need for a terrestrial complement and backup to GPS. These poll results demonstrate strong public backing for addressing this public safety and national security imperative.
