Royal Caribbean Group is partnering with Goldbelt Incorporated, an Alaska Native corporation, to co-develop a new cruise port on Douglas Island in Juneau, Alaska. The project aims to strengthen the city's infrastructure, alleviate downtown traffic congestion, and enhance both visitor and resident experiences. Preliminary designs for the 'Port of Tomorrow' include two floating berths and a recreated 1800s Alaska Native Tlingit village, offering cultural immersion through stories, art, songs, dance, and traditional foods. The port is projected for completion during the 2027 Alaska cruise season. This initiative is designed to remove nearly one-third of bus traffic from Juneau's most impacted roadways by enabling direct departures for whale-watching tours or Mendenhall Glacier. The project also offers environmental advantages by reducing fuel requirements for ships sailing north or west due to its location on major shipping routes.
