Exxon Mobil Corporation has announced an agreement with Calpine Corporation to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2. The CO2 will be captured from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center near Houston.
This agreement marks ExxonMobil’s sixth carbon capture and storage (CCS) customer, increasing the company’s total amount of CO2 under contract to approximately 16 MTA. The CO2 will integrate into ExxonMobil’s existing pipeline system along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
This development reinforces ExxonMobil's leadership in providing end-to-end CCS solutions for diverse industrial sectors, including power generation. The project aims to produce about 500 megawatts of low-carbon electricity, supporting American energy security and industrial competitiveness.
