Alcoa Corporation announced today a 10‑year renewable energy contract with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) that will provide the company’s Massena smelter with 240 megawatts of competitively priced renewable electricity. The contract takes effect on 1 April 2026 and includes the option to extend for two additional five‑year terms.

The company also disclosed a capital investment of approximately $60 million to rebuild and modernize the smelter’s anode baking furnace, a key component of the aluminum smelting process. The investment is financed through the new energy contract and a $6 million grant from Empire State Development, and is scheduled to be completed through 2028.

This development delivers long‑term energy cost certainty, supports the smelter’s 130,000‑metric‑ton annual nameplate capacity, and strengthens Alcoa’s position as a leading U.S. aluminum producer. By securing renewable power and upgrading critical equipment, Alcoa enhances operational resilience, reduces energy‑related volatility, and reinforces its commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
