Apple has committed a $1 billion investment in Indonesia to avoid a ban on iPhone 16 sales in the country. This significant investment proposal has received approval from President Prabowo Subianto.
The ban was initially imposed due to Apple's failure to meet local regulations requiring smartphones and tablets sold in Indonesia to be at least 40% homegrown. The investment aims to strengthen Indonesia's technological infrastructure.
A key part of the plan includes establishing a manufacturing facility on Batam island for AirTags, expected to create approximately 1,000 jobs. This move secures Apple's market access in a populous Southeast Asian country and supports its supply chain diversification efforts.
