On December 9, 2024, Ameresco, Inc. announced that its newly formed joint venture with Republic Services achieved commercial operation at their landfill gas (LFG) to renewable natural gas (RNG) plant. The facility is located at Republic Services' Roxana Landfill in Edwardsville, Illinois, and began operations in November.
The Roxana RNG facility is designed to process 6,000 SCFM of raw landfill gas per minute, converting it into pipeline-quality RNG. This project is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 82,000 metric tons per year.
This facility marks the 14th renewable energy project collaboration between Republic Services and Ameresco, and the first time they have formed a joint venture to co-invest in a new facility. The project supports Illinois' commitment to achieving 40% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% clean energy by 2050.
