On April 16, 2025, Ameresco, Inc. and Southwest Wisconsin Technical College announced the successful completion of a $1.6 million solar array and battery storage project. This marks the first such project in the college’s history. The design-build project includes a 300-kilowatt solar array and a 125-kilowatt battery storage system. The system is expected to produce approximately 352,710 kilowatt hours annually, offsetting about 60% of the electricity used in Building 400, one of the most populated buildings on campus. The project is expected to save the college approximately $30,000 per year in utility costs and provide a resilient supply of energy to the student services building during outages. The college plans to use the new system as an educational tool for students and apprentices in renewable energy.
