Amentum has secured up to £1.4 billion of the £4.6 billion Decommissioning and Nuclear Waste Partnership (DNWP) framework for Sellafield, a 15‑year contract covering remediation of disused facilities and retrieval of hazardous waste from legacy ponds.
The framework replaces the previous Decommissioning Delivery Partnership and positions Amentum as the remediation partner for work inside the site’s High Security Area, while the Decommissioning Alliance (TDA)—a joint venture with AtkinsRéalis and Westinghouse—handles pond retrievals.
The award follows Amentum’s recent acquisition of Jacobs’ Critical Mission Solutions and Cyber & Intelligence businesses, which added $3.5 billion of revenue and $45 billion of backlog to the company. The Sellafield win is expected to contribute to the backlog and support the company’s strategy to expand its global engineering and technology services portfolio.
Amentum will deploy advanced technologies—including digital visualization, geospatial data analysis, robotics, augmented reality, and an AI‑based tool called Threadsafe—to accelerate waste‑led decommissioning and improve safety. The company also plans to use the Bulk Sludge Retrieval Tool for pond operations.
Management highlighted that the contract strengthens Amentum’s footprint in the UK nuclear sector, where the decommissioning market is projected to grow to $1.18 billion by 2030. The company noted that the award aligns with its focus on “pure‑play advanced engineering and technology solutions” and supports its goal of delivering high‑value infrastructure projects.
Amentum also committed to social value initiatives at Sellafield, including skills development, apprenticeships, and local economic support, as part of the framework’s community engagement requirements.
