Astronics Corporation announced its selection to provide the Frequency Converter Unit (FCU) for the NASA and Boeing Transonic Truss-Braced Wing (TTBW) X-66 demonstrator aircraft. This contract underscores Astronics' expertise in advanced electrical power systems for aerospace applications. The company will also collaborate closely with project stakeholders to support ground and flight tests. The FCU is crucial for converting the output of the newly adapted 115VAC, 3-phase Variable Frequency Generator to a constant 115VAC, 3-phase, 400 Hz power for the aircraft’s main power buses. This capability is essential for enabling the use of legacy onboard systems and loads that are qualified to 400Hz constant frequency power. Ground and flight tests for the X-66 demonstrator are slated to begin in 2028. This program represents a significant milestone in the aviation industry’s pursuit of sustainability, aligning Astronics with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
