Emirates Airlines announced a $38 billion purchase of 65 Boeing 777‑9 wide‑body jets at the Dubai Air Show, bringing the carrier’s total 777‑X orders to 270 aircraft and cementing its status as Boeing’s largest customer for the program.

The deal includes 130 GE9X engines and a long‑term service agreement that extends Emirates’ partnership with GE Aerospace. Deliveries are slated to begin in the second quarter of 2027, and the order contains options that support Boeing’s feasibility study for a potential 777‑10 variant, giving the manufacturer a foothold in the very‑large aircraft market.

For Emirates, the order reinforces a fleet strategy that prioritizes high‑capacity, fuel‑efficient aircraft as the airline phases out its Airbus A380s. For Boeing, the commitment boosts the commercial backlog and signals continued market confidence despite the 777‑X’s seven‑year certification delay and the $5 billion charge the company recorded for program setbacks.

The order underscores a long‑standing partnership that has spanned four decades, with Emirates already operating the largest 777 fleet worldwide. Emirates’ chairman, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, emphasized that the purchase “expands our commitment to Boeing and to U.S. aerospace” and that each aircraft has been carefully factored into the airline’s growth plan.

Boeing’s president and CEO, Stephanie Pope, noted that Emirates “has once again selected the 777‑X to power its future as the airline refreshes its world‑class fleet and expands its global network,” highlighting the strategic alignment between the two companies.
