Braskem and Norsk e‑Fuel announced a strategic partnership to explore the use of e‑naphtha, a synthetic feedstock produced from captured CO₂ and renewable electricity, in Braskem’s plastics value chain. The collaboration, announced on November 20, 2025, aims to create a framework for integrating e‑naphtha into Braskem’s production processes and to assess market opportunities for low‑carbon plastics.

Norsk e‑Fuel plans to operate at least three Power‑to‑Liquid plants by 2032, with a combined annual capacity of more than 200,000 tons of e‑fuels. Roughly a quarter of that output—about 50,000 tons—could be supplied as e‑naphtha, providing Braskem with a new, carbon‑negative feedstock that could replace traditional naphtha or natural‑gas liquids in its polymer plants. Braskem’s “Keeping Carbon in the Loop” strategy already includes the “I’m green™” bio‑based polyethylene line, and the e‑naphtha partnership would extend the company’s green portfolio toward its 1 million‑ton annual bioproduct target set for 2030.

Braskem’s shift away from naphtha is part of a broader move toward more competitive gas‑liquid feedstocks such as ethane and propane. The e‑naphtha initiative complements this strategy by offering a carbon‑negative alternative that aligns with global decarbonization trends and regulatory pressure for circular materials. By integrating captured carbon into its plastics, Braskem can reduce its greenhouse‑gas footprint while opening new revenue streams in the growing market for sustainable polymers.

Despite the strategic upside, Braskem has faced recent financial headwinds. The company’s subsidiary Braskem Idesa missed an interest payment, and Braskem reported a loss of R$26 million in its third quarter of 2025. The partnership therefore represents a proactive effort to strengthen the company’s long‑term resilience and to signal confidence in its sustainability trajectory to investors and stakeholders.

Lars Bjørn Larsen, chief commercial officer of Norsk e‑Fuel, said the partnership would “embed captured carbon into durable, recyclable products, keeping carbon in use rather than in the atmosphere.” Walmir Soller, Braskem’s vice president for North America, Europe, and Asia, added that the collaboration “reflects our commitment to innovation and to building value chains that enable circularity and carbon neutrality.”
