Brookfield Asset Management announced an investment of up to SEK 95 billion, approximately $10 billion, to support the development of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Sweden. This represents one of Brookfield’s largest AI investments in Europe.
The investment will center on a new large AI data center in Strängnäs, Sweden, which will more than double its capacity from 300MW to 750MW. This facility is projected to be the first of its kind in Sweden and one of the first in Europe, creating over 1,000 new permanent jobs and 2,000 construction jobs over 10-15 years.
Sikander Rashid, Head of Europe at Brookfield, stated that this investment extends Brookfield's partnership with the Swedish government and supports its ambition to become a leading AI hub. The investment covers data centers, data transfer, chip storage, and energy generation, boosting sovereign compute capabilities for public and private enterprises.
