BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) and ten23 health announced a collaboration on October 8, 2024, to develop a new method for tracking prefillable syringes (PFS) using RFID technology. This partnership aims to improve manufacturing process efficiency and provide enhanced traceability of individual units.
The new solution, branded BD iDFill™ Individual Prefillable Syringe Identification, involves equipping each PFS with an RFID tag containing a unique serial number. This allows for scanning at various stages of manufacturing, from filling to secondary packaging, ensuring full container traceability.
By linking drug codes, filling batches, and timestamps with the unique identifier, the system enables automated reconciliation, mix-up prevention, and improved investigation management. This focus on individual units is expected to bring greater process visibility and efficiency to pharmaceutical fill & finish processes.
