Carilion Clinic, a not-for-profit healthcare organization in Virginia, announced on January 22, 2025, its partnership with BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) to become the first health system in the state and Southeastern U.S. to offer needle-free blood draws. This initiative utilizes the BD® PIVO™ Pro Needle-free Blood Collection Device. The advanced PIVO™ Pro Technology allows clinicians to use a patient's existing peripheral IV catheter line for blood draws, reducing multiple needlesticks, pain, and anxiety for patients. It also streamlines clinical workflows and minimizes complications that can lead to redraws and delays in patient care. This implementation is part of Carilion's commitment to patient-centered care, aiming for a 'One-Stick Patient Experience.' The device will initially be available at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and will be rolled out to other Carilion hospitals throughout the year, validating BD's leadership in vascular access solutions.
