BioLargo Delivers First Commercial PFAS‑Removal System to New Jersey Water Treatment Plant

BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQX:BLGO) delivered its Aqueous Electrostatic Concentrator (AEC) system to the Lake Stockholm, New Jersey municipal water treatment plant, marking the first commercial deployment of BEST’s PFAS‑removal technology in a public‑sector setting. The installation is slated to begin operation in the coming weeks, providing a real‑world validation of the system’s performance and scalability.

The AEC system uses electrostatic concentration to capture and destroy PFAS molecules across all chain lengths—long, short, and ultra‑short—while producing less than 1/1,000 of the PFAS‑laden solid waste generated by conventional granular activated carbon or ion‑exchange processes. In a 1,000‑gallon‑per‑minute pilot, the AEC reduced monthly energy costs from approximately $208,000 to $15,700, a savings of 90% and an 80% reduction in total lifecycle costs compared with carbon‑based systems. The technology’s near‑zero waste profile and high removal efficiency position it as a more sustainable and cost‑effective alternative to existing treatment methods.

For BioLargo, the Lake Stockholm deployment is a critical revenue‑generation milestone. It demonstrates the commercial viability of the AEC platform, enabling the company to showcase proven performance to other municipal and industrial customers and accelerate the pipeline of future contracts. The successful operation will also support BioLargo’s broader strategy of monetizing its environmental technologies, which has been a focus of the company’s recent capital allocation and product development efforts.

Financially, BioLargo reported a net loss of $7.14 million in Q3 2025, largely driven by a $3.85 million impairment charge related to a dispute with Pooph. Despite the loss, the company maintained a cash balance of $4.5 million and no toxic debt, giving it the liquidity to invest in new deployments. The revenue generated from the Lake Stockholm site will help offset operating losses and improve cash flow, while the technology’s cost advantages could translate into attractive margins for future contracts.

The broader market context underscores the significance of this deployment. New Jersey has faced more than $2.5 billion in PFAS cleanup settlements, and regulatory pressure is tightening across the United States. BioLargo’s AEC system offers a competitive edge over traditional GAC and ion‑exchange technologies by delivering higher removal efficiency, lower waste, and substantially lower energy consumption. This advantage positions the company to capture a growing share of the PFAS remediation market, which is expected to expand as state and federal agencies enforce stricter limits.

CEO Dennis P. Calvert said, “The Lake Stockholm installation is a milestone that validates our technology’s commercial readiness. It demonstrates that the AEC platform can deliver the performance and cost savings our customers demand, and it sets the stage for rapid expansion across the country.”
