A U.S. appeals court on July 15, 2025, issued a temporary hold on a judge's order that Argentina turn over its 51% stake in oil and gas company YPF. This decision temporarily delays the enforcement of the $16.1 billion judgment against Argentina.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan granted Petersen Energia Inversora and Eton Park Capital Management until July 17 to oppose Argentina's request for a longer stay. Argentina has until July 22 to reply to the opposition.

The matter will be reviewed by a three-judge panel, prolonging the legal process for Burford Capital's approximately 40% entitlement in the YPF-related assets. This temporary halt introduces further uncertainty regarding the timeline for resolution and collection of the judgment.
