BWXT Technologies shipped a complete TRISO fuel core to Idaho National Laboratory on December 2, 2025, marking the first time the company has produced and delivered a full core for the Department of Defense’s Project Pele microreactor program.

The delivery validates BWXT’s long‑standing TRISO fabrication expertise and positions the company as the sole U.S. manufacturer of TRISO fuel for high‑temperature reactors. By providing the entire core, BWXT enables the Army’s Janus program to advance testing and move closer to deployment, reinforcing its role as a key supplier for future microreactor deployments.

BWXT’s financial performance underscores the significance of this milestone. For the trailing twelve months ending September 30, 2025, revenue reached $3.059 billion, up 14.01% year‑over‑year, while net income for 2024 was $0.282 billion, a 14.68% increase from 2023. The company’s investment in TRISO fabrication and the launch of its subsidiary, BWXT Advanced Fuels, signal a broader commercial expansion into advanced reactor technologies.

Management highlighted the achievement: President for Government Operations Joe Miller said the company “continues to lead…by delivering” while Dr. Jeff Waksman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army, praised the delivery as “real nuclear microreactor fuel delivered at its final destination,” underscoring the program’s progress toward resilient, carbon‑free power for military bases.

The milestone accelerates Project Pele’s testing schedule and strengthens BWXT’s competitive position. With the core in hand, the program can move toward the first power‑generation test in 2028, while the success also supports the broader Janus initiative, which aims to deploy commercial microreactors at military installations. The delivery demonstrates operational capability, positions BWXT for future commercial opportunities, and reinforces the U.S. nuclear industry’s readiness to support advanced reactor deployments.
