Project Pele Microreactor Core Manufacturing Commences at BWXT Innovation Campus

BWX Technologies, Inc. announced that work has commenced to fabricate the reactor core for the Pele microreactor. This critical manufacturing is taking place at its BWXT Innovation Campus in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Project Pele is a 1.5-megawatt demonstration microreactor being developed for the Department of Defense Strategic Capabilities Office. The Pele microreactor is designed to be gas-cooled and transportable, offering advanced energy solutions for defense applications.

The technology is expected to begin producing electricity in 2028, marking a significant step towards deploying next-generation nuclear systems. This milestone highlights BWXT's progress in translating technological leadership into future production programs for national security.
