Cardinal Health announced the expansion of its Equity Rx initiative, bringing the total investment to $5 million. This expansion aims to increase access to prescription medications for individuals in Ohio and beyond who cannot afford them.
The recent grant funds will enable the establishment of Equity Rx programs in 10 charitable clinics across Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Illinois, which have collectively helped thousands of patients access free medications. This builds on a successful pilot program in southwest Ohio.
A significant part of the new grant will launch Ohio's first statewide prescription drug repository, to be housed at St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy. This facility, expected to be fully operational in 2027, will safely upcycle donated unused medications from nursing homes and long-term care facilities, distributing them to free clinics and charitable pharmacies across Ohio.
