A seminal new peer-reviewed economic study released on September 22, 2025, by the Center on Rural Innovation (CORI) provides groundbreaking evidence that fiber-fed broadband experiences significantly boost income, entrepreneurship, and business investment in rural communities. The study was sponsored by Calix, Inc., NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association, and the Fiber Broadband Association. Analyzing data from 2020-2022, the study found that rural counties with high broadband adoption rates (over 80%) experienced 213% higher business growth, a 10% rise in self-employment, and 44% higher local gross domestic product (GDP) compared to underserved communities. These economic gains primarily benefited existing residents. The research validates Calix's mission to enable broadband service providers to evolve into 'Broadband Experience Providers' (BXPs) that prioritize subscriber engagement and diversified revenue streams. This focus on experience, rather than just speed, is shown to drive economic growth, enhance resilience, and build a more prosperous future for rural America.
