Cibus, Inc. welcomed significant progress in the regulation of New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) in the European Union (EU). On March 14, 2025, EU member states endorsed the EU Council's negotiating mandate on the regulation of plants obtained by NGTs. This advancement enables the Council to engage in trilogue discussions with the EU Parliament and the European Commission to agree on the final text of the legislation. The proposed legislation identifies a 'conventional-like' category of NGT-1 products that would be regulated as conventional varieties and exempted from GMO legislation. Tony Moran, Senior Vice President of International Development at Cibus, commented that this agreement is a significant milestone that aims to boost innovators developing NGT products. Peter Beetham, Interim CEO, noted that Cibus's RTDS technologies produce 'conventional-like' crop varieties under the EU proposal, which could facilitate market access in Europe.
