Cibus, Inc. announced that its next-generation edits for herbicide tolerance (HT2) in Canola have shown increased tolerance to a novel herbicide in greenhouse testing. This achievement marks an important success milestone in the development of its second-generation HT2 edited Canola.
The company plans to use seed from these edited plants to initiate larger-scale field testing during the 2025 season. This development is significant as many weeds impacting crop production are becoming resistant to widely used conventional herbicides.
Cibus believes its HT2 trait has the potential to provide farmers with additional herbicide options for difficult weeds and could translate to other crops like Soybean. This milestone demonstrates the ability of Cibus's Rapid Trait Development System (RTDS) to develop complex traits in a materially shorter timeframe.
