Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corp. announced the sale of the M/V Buenaventura Express, a 13,312‑TEU Neo‑Panamax container vessel built in 2023 by Hyundai Samho Industries in South Korea. The memorandum of agreement for the sale was signed on October 29 2025, and the vessel is scheduled to be delivered to its new owners in the first quarter of 2026.
The transaction is expected to generate a book gain of approximately $4.4 million. Capital Clean Energy Carriers plans to use the proceeds to reduce its outstanding debt of $84.4 million and for general corporate purposes, thereby strengthening its balance sheet and improving financial flexibility.
The sale is part of a broader strategy to divest legacy container assets and concentrate capital on its growing LNG, LPG, ammonia and liquid CO₂ fleet. After the sale, the company will retain only one 13,312‑TEU container vessel on fixed employment through 2033, with options to extend to 2039, further streamlining operations and reinforcing its focus on clean‑energy shipping.
Since February 2024, Capital Clean Energy Carriers has sold or agreed to sell 14 container vessels, generating roughly $814.3 million in gross proceeds. The company’s current in‑the‑water fleet consists of 14 vessels, including 12 LNG carriers and two Neo‑Panamax container vessels, one of which is the Buenaventura Express. An order book for new gas carriers is scheduled for deliveries through the third quarter of 2027.
CEO Jerry Kalogiratos said the company is “encouraged” by the improving short‑term picture for LNG shipping and that the retirement of older LNG carriers reinforces the long‑term value of its modern fleet. He added that the company has no exposure to the spot LNG market for the next 12 months, being insulated by charter agreements.
The sale reflects a broader industry trend toward mid‑size Neo‑Panamax vessels for their flexibility, but Capital Clean Energy Carriers is moving away from container shipping entirely. By concentrating on gas carriers, the company positions itself to benefit from the growing demand for cleaner energy transportation and the regulatory push toward lower emissions.
