The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has partnered with Constellation Energy on a grant proposal to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The proposal seeks funding to support Constellation's efforts to obtain an early site permit for advanced nuclear reactors at its Nine Mile Point Clean Energy Center in Oswego, New York.
This collaboration aligns with New York's newly unveiled policies aimed at expanding advanced nuclear energy to achieve its clean electricity goals. If awarded, the DOE funding would facilitate the pursuit of an early site permit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which is valid for 10 to 20 years.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul's administration has also announced that the state will co-lead a multi-state Consortium on Nuclear Energy, focused on reducing costs and sharing risks in new nuclear development. This initiative underscores growing state-level support for nuclear power, further benefiting Constellation's long-term growth prospects.
