Churchill Downs Incorporated announced the grand opening of The Rose Gaming Resort in Dumfries, Virginia, representing a significant $460 million investment by the company. The world-class entertainment resort spans 175,000 square feet and features 1,650 historical racing machines (HRMs).
The new resort also includes eight bars and restaurants, a hotel with over 100 rooms, and dedicated event space. This development has created approximately 500 permanent jobs in the region.
The addition of these 1,650 HRMs will lead to an expansion of Thoroughbred horse racing in Virginia, with Colonial Downs Racetrack in New Kent adding 16 days to its 2025 racing season. Churchill Downs has also committed $2 million to fund the design of a new community center in Dumfries as part of its community partnership.
