Centene Corporation’s Ambetter from Health Net brand will offer health‑insurance plans in ten California counties for the 2026 plan year, with open enrollment beginning on November 1, 2025 and coverage effective January 1, 2026.
The new markets include Sacramento, Placer, Kern, Riverside, San Bernardino, and five additional counties, covering roughly 60 % of California’s population and expanding the brand’s presence in the state’s largest health‑insurance market.
Centene reported Q3 2025 adjusted earnings per share of $0.50, down from $1.62 in Q3 2024, and revenue of $49.7 billion, an 18.2 % year‑over‑year increase. Membership reached 28 million as of September 30, 2025, an 8 % rise, while a $6.7 billion goodwill impairment contributed to a GAAP loss of $13.50 per share.
CEO Sarah London said the expansion is part of Centene’s strategy to grow its marketplace share in key states and to provide affordable coverage to underserved communities, noting that the company remains positioned for meaningful margin improvement in 2026 despite policy uncertainty and rising medical costs.
The California market is highly competitive, with other insurers expanding their county footprints and premium increases expected for 2026 due to the expiration of enhanced federal subsidies. Centene’s move is intended to capture a larger share of the marketplace amid these headwinds.
Ambetter members will also have access to the “My Health Pays” rewards program, which offers incentives for health‑related activities, and the company continues to invest in community initiatives such as mobile clinics to address physician shortages in the state.
