'Ohana Health Plan, a Centene Corporation company, and the Centene Foundation announced a $550,000 grant award to Hawai'i Island Community Health Center (HICHC). The grant will fund HICHC's 'Gateway to Health' project.
This initiative will provide a new mobile health clinic to expand school-based health services for children in rural Hawai'i Island over two years. Many of these areas lack easy access to healthcare or physical clinic spaces.
The mobile clinic is expected to be operational by the start of the 2025-2026 school year, bringing medical, dental, and mental health services directly to students. This approach aims to meet state health requirements, reduce absenteeism, and enhance academic performance for underserved students.
