CenterPoint Energy is deploying its cold weather readiness plan in anticipation of a second major cold snap expected to impact its Texas service territory. The company's Emergency Response and Preparedness and Meteorology teams are actively monitoring forecasts and preparing for safe and reliable energy delivery during cold and potentially icy conditions.
Proactive pre-winter preparedness actions have been performed to strengthen and winterize electric and natural gas infrastructure across Texas, including inspecting and testing cold-weather critical equipment. CenterPoint is also deploying cold weather mitigations and coordinating with local emergency responders.
As part of its ongoing work to increase system resiliency, CenterPoint teams and contractors have trimmed approximately 3,500 miles of higher-risk vegetation since August 5, 2024. This extensive trimming helps mitigate potential outages caused by ice and snow accumulation on power lines.
