On October 23, 2025, Cisco announced a partnership with the City of Los Angeles, Destination Crenshaw, the California Community Foundation, and Digital Equity LA to launch a free community Wi‑Fi pilot along the Crenshaw Corridor. The initiative will provide high‑speed internet access across major streets, parks, and public gathering places, targeting South LA residents, businesses, and visitors ahead of major events such as the FIFA World Cup, Super Bowl LXI, and the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

The pilot will deploy 1.5 mi of underground fiber optics from Leimert Park Plaza to the Hyde Park Metro Station, leveraging the city’s street‑lighting assets. Cisco will deploy cloud‑managed outdoor access points and its Ultra‑Reliable Wireless Backhaul (URWB) to ensure secure, high‑performance connectivity in areas where fiber is still being rolled out. The network is designed as a platform to support future smart‑city use cases such as data‑driven traffic management, public safety, and environmental sensing.

By becoming the official network equipment partner for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games, Cisco positions itself to support the city’s connectivity needs for upcoming global events, while expanding its public‑sector footprint. The initiative also aligns with Cisco’s broader mission to power an inclusive future, providing digital equity to underserved communities and creating a foundation for future smart‑city innovations.
