Congress has passed Donald Trump’s 'Big, Beautiful Bill,' which allocates $45 billion over the next four years to triple federal spending on immigrant detention. This legislation is expected to more than double current detention capacity from approximately 56,000 beds to potentially over 100,000 beds nationwide.
The bill also provides approximately $29.9 billion for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enforcement and deportation operations, effectively tripling ICE’s current annual budget for these activities. Additionally, $46.5 billion is set aside for the continued construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
This substantial increase in government funding directly benefits private corrections companies like CoreCivic, which saw its shares rise by 2.5% following the news. The legislation creates a highly favorable environment for CoreCivic to secure new contracts and expand its services to meet the escalating demand for immigration detention.
