DiDi Global's autonomous vehicle technology unit is reportedly seeking fresh capital that could value it at approximately $5 billion. This initiative underscores the company's commitment to advancing its self-driving capabilities and securing the necessary investment for future development.

The autonomous driving unit, established in 2020, has already raised a total of $1.55 billion to date, including a $298 million funding round completed in October 2024. The current fundraising efforts aim to secure several hundred million dollars more, with discussions reportedly underway with various investors, including a Beijing-based fund.

DiDi Autonomous Driving is actively testing a fleet of around 200 autonomous vehicles across major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. The company plans to use the new funds to further develop its autonomous vehicle technology and accelerate the mass production of its electric robotaxis, which are being built in partnership with EV maker GAC Aion, with the first models expected in 2025.
