Dow Inc. and Ambipar, a Brazilian multinational environmental solutions leader, announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 14, 2024. This alliance aims to explore innovative business opportunities by leveraging post-consumer plastic waste and transforming it into new products across Latin America. The partnership is designed to create an effective platform for plastic recycling and enhance Brazil's waste management system.

The companies aspire to lead polyethylene recycling in Brazil by 2030, projecting an increase in operations from 2,000 tons per year to 60,000 tons per year. This substantial expansion will facilitate business growth and reinforce the integration within the value chain to drive a circular economy for plastics. The preliminary assessment outlines a phased approach over the next five years to construct new Mechanical Recycling facilities.

These new facilities are expected to employ efficient technology to transform 80,000 tons of plastic waste into approximately 60,000 tons per year of post-consumer resin (PCR). This progression is intended to establish a long-term successful model for advanced recycling processes and technologies. The MoU also includes plans to develop a detailed financial model for end-to-end mechanical recycling, covering waste costs, logistics, and the incorporation of recycled content into plastic materials.
