Brinker International, Inc., parent company of Chili's, has settled lawsuits filed by Beastie Boys and Universal Music Group regarding the unauthorized use of the song "Sabotage" in social media advertisements. Settlement notices were posted in Manhattan and Dallas federal courts on Wednesday, May 22, 2025. The lawsuits accused Chili's of using significant portions of the 1994 song and echoing its music video without permission. Beastie Boys have a stated policy against licensing their intellectual property for product advertising, and late founding member Adam "MCA" Yauch forbade such use in his will. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. This resolution removes a legal contingency for Brinker International, which had faced potential liabilities from the litigation.
