Ria Money Transfer, a business segment of Euronet, announced it has become the majority shareholder by acquiring 60% of Unidos Co., Ltd., known as Kyodai Remittance, a Japan-based funds transfer business. This acquisition is set to expand Ria's footprint across the Asia Pacific region. Kyodai Remittance holds a Type 1 Funds Transfer Service Provider license in Japan, enabling it to process high-value transactions exceeding JPY 1 million (approximately USD $6,800). This capability, combined with Kyodai's market insight and existing omnichannel presence, will enhance Ria's service offerings. The acquisition integrates Kyodai’s operations, including its digital products, into Ria’s global network of over 624,000 locations, 4 billion bank accounts, 3.2 billion digital wallets, and Visa debit cards. This move capitalizes on significant demographic changes in Japan, where personal remittances from the country exceeded USD $6.07 billion in 2024.
