Encompass Health Corp. has announced the construction of a freestanding, 50‑bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Fishers, Indiana, slated to open in 2027. The new facility will join the company’s existing Indiana footprint, which includes the Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in Newburgh and a downtown satellite in Evansville.

The Fishers hospital will feature all‑private rooms, a spacious therapy gym equipped with advanced rehabilitation technologies such as robotic exoskeletons and virtual‑reality‑guided therapy, an activities‑of‑daily‑living suite, an in‑house dialysis unit, dining and pharmacy services, and a therapy courtyard. It is designed to serve patients in Hamilton County and surrounding communities recovering from strokes, neurological disorders, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic conditions.

Fishers was selected after a detailed market analysis that highlighted a rapidly growing population, an aging demographic profile, and a shortage of high‑quality inpatient rehabilitation services in the region. By adding this facility, Encompass Health expands capacity in an underserved market, reinforcing its strategy of increasing presence where demand is rising and competition is limited.

Encompass Health’s recent financial performance underscores the company’s ability to fund such expansions. In the third quarter of 2025, the company reported net operating revenue of $1,477.5 million, up 9.4% year‑over‑year, and adjusted earnings per share of $1.23, a 19.4% increase. The firm has raised its full‑year guidance, reflecting confidence in continued growth and operational leverage. While specific revenue projections for the Fishers hospital are not disclosed, the addition of 50 beds is expected to contribute significantly to the company’s overall capacity and revenue stream as it opens in 2027.

Abe Sims, president of Encompass Health’s Mid‑Atlantic region, said the expansion "will help us meet the growing needs of patients in Indiana and strengthen our position as the largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the United States." The new facility aligns with Encompass Health’s broader objective of expanding into high‑growth markets and enhancing service accessibility for patients across the country.

With 170 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals across 39 states and Puerto Rico as of September 30 2025, Encompass Health remains a dominant player in the sector. The Fishers project not only increases bed capacity but also positions the company to capture market share in a region with strong demographic tailwinds, supporting long‑term revenue growth and reinforcing its leadership in the industry.
