Enel Chile implemented a significant strategic change by transitioning its functional currency from Chilean pesos to United States dollars, effective January 1, 2025. This change was also adopted by its subsidiary, Enel Generación Chile, aligning financial reporting across key entities.
This decision reflects the increasing influence of the U.S. dollar on the company's economic environment, particularly as free customer contracts become the main source of income. The shift aims to reduce exposure to exchange rate fluctuations and improve financial stability.
The transition resulted in a non-cash impact of US $657 million at the EBITDA level, which was recognized at the end of fiscal year 2024. However, this change is not expected to affect dividend distribution to shareholders.
