Equinix, Inc. announced the opening of its first International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Chennai, India, named CN1. Located in Siruseri, Tamil Nadu, the new facility represents an initial investment of US$69 million. This expansion is strategically important as India strengthens its position as a key hub for innovation, research, and AI investment.
The CN1 data center will provide 800 cabinets of capacity in its first phase, with plans to eventually support 4,250 cabinets. It is interconnected with Equinix's Mumbai campus, which already hosts a robust cloud ecosystem with native on-ramps to major cloud service providers. This connectivity enables customers in Chennai to gain low-latency access to this vital digital ecosystem.
Engineered for high reliability with 99.999% uptime, CN1 features a full suite of Equinix interconnection services, including Equinix Fabric. Its advanced design supports liquid cooling technology, essential for handling the high-density, compute-intensive workloads that drive AI and other transformative technologies. This facility bolsters the digital infrastructure required to support India's technological evolution.
