Spartanburg District Five Schools has expanded its use of Evolv Technologies’ security solutions to cover all 14 schools in the district. The expansion adds 29 Evolv Express people‑screening systems and four Evolv eXpedite bag‑screening units, bringing the total number of Evolv devices in the district to 33.

The district’s Director of Safety and Emergency Services, Ryan Cothran, said the new deployment will allow students, staff and visitors to move through checkpoints at a natural walking pace while maintaining a high level of threat detection. "Evolv’s frictionless screening technology helps us keep our schools safe without creating bottlenecks," Cothran said.

Evolv’s CEO and President, John Kedzierski, noted that the district’s phased approach—starting with Express in 2022 and adding eXpedite in 2025—demonstrates the company’s commitment to scalable, high‑throughput security solutions for educational environments.

The expansion aligns with the district’s 2025 budget, which allocated funds for advanced security equipment, and reflects a broader trend of schools adopting AI‑powered screening to enhance safety while preserving a welcoming environment.

Evolv has reported that its systems have screened more than 3 billion people worldwide since 2019, and the Spartanburg deployment adds to a growing portfolio of educational clients.

The district’s move is part of a broader strategy to balance safety with efficient entry, reducing wait times and improving the overall school experience.
