Vertical Aerospace has begun transition flight testing of its VX4 eVTOL aircraft, a critical step toward achieving type certification in 2028.

Full transition flights are expected to be completed before the end of 2025, aligning with the company’s revised certification timeline.

The transition phase demonstrates the VX4’s ability to shift between vertical lift and wingborne flight, a capability essential for operations from vertiports and rooftops.

The company requires approximately $700 million in funding to reach certification. As of early November 2025, it held £89 million ($117 million) in cash and cash equivalents, projected to fund operations through mid‑2026.

Vertical Aerospace plans to begin flight testing of a hybrid‑electric variant of the VX4 in 2026 and will unveil a full‑size aircraft design at a London launch event on December 10 2025.

The announcement follows a series of milestones, including the release of cabin design images featuring a four‑seat luxury configuration and a six‑seat alternative, with a payload capacity of 550 kg. The company competes with Archer Aviation, Joby Aviation, Lilium, and Volocopter in the advanced air mobility market.
