Ford announced on 25 October 2025 that it will significantly increase production of its F‑150 and F‑Series Super Duty trucks by more than 50,000 units in 2026, adding up to 1,000 new jobs. The move is part of a recovery plan following the Novelis aluminum plant fire that disrupted production of the company’s most profitable truck line and its electric‑vehicle program.
The company will add a third crew of 1,200 employees at the Dearborn Truck Plant, transfer 90 employees to the Dearborn Stamping Plant and 80 to the Dearborn Diversified Manufacturing Plant, and shift all hourly workers from the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center to the Dearborn Truck Plant. Production of the F‑150 Lightning will remain paused while the company focuses on gas‑ and hybrid‑powered trucks.
By boosting production capacity and creating jobs, Ford aims to recover the volume lost due to the Novelis fire, which had cost the company an estimated $1.5 billion to $2 billion in adjusted EBIT headwinds. The expansion supports the Ford+ plan, strengthens the company’s core business, and mitigates the impact of the supply‑chain disruption on profitability.
