FedEx Corporation unveiled a new, state-of-the-art, automated sorting facility at its Memphis World Hub, which is now fully operational ahead of the holiday peak season. The LEED Certified building spans 1.3 million square feet across four levels and features 11 miles of conveyor belt.
This advanced facility is equipped to sort 56,000 packages per hour and includes a dedicated area for handling bulky, non-conveyable shipments. It can process more than half the volume from the primary sort, leading to quicker sort times and faster delivery to final destinations.
The facility incorporates state-of-the-art technology, including six-sided scanning for accurate package dimension and barcode capture, new weighing and dimensioning systems, and 1,000 cameras for monitoring package flow. A new Hub Operations Command Center, three times the size of the original, oversees all operations at the Memphis World Hub, which is the largest sort facility in the FedEx global network.
