FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) announced today that it is close to energizing an 11.5‑mile high‑voltage transmission line in Trumbull and Ashtabula counties, Ohio. The project, rebuilt by American Transmission Systems, Inc. (ATSI), replaces aging infrastructure with stronger poles and thicker wires, and is expected to be energized by the end of the month.

The upgrade includes the installation of nearly 140 new steel structures, many anchored in deep concrete foundations, to better withstand severe weather and vehicle accidents. The enhanced line will also connect with existing lines, allowing power to be rerouted more efficiently during outages and reducing the likelihood of cascading failures.

This $19 million project is a key component of FirstEnergy’s Energize365 capital investment program, which aims to modernize the grid across the company’s footprint through 2029. The upgrade will improve reliability for roughly 10,000 residents and businesses in the two counties, supporting the company’s focus on customer service and positioning it to meet the growing demand from data centers and other large loads.
