FMC Corporation announced it has received registration in Brazil for Sofero Fall pheromone, targeting the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). This marks the first product launch under FMC's global Sofero pheromone solutions brand for row crops. Sofero Fall offers growers a novel approach to sustainably control pests, manage resistance, and boost productivity.
The fall armyworm has developed resistance to many traditional insecticides, creating a demand for alternative solutions. Sofero Fall utilizes mating disruption, a breakthrough technology that uses pheromones to naturally disrupt the pest's mating cycles, preventing reproduction. This protects crops in early development stages, reducing damage and supporting healthy growth.
The unique, sprayable formulation leverages FMC's proprietary microencapsulation technology to improve stability and extend effectiveness, providing longer-lasting protection. Sofero pheromone solutions are designed for integrated pest management programs, combining with synthetics, biologicals, and precision technologies. Registration for Sofero Frugi pheromone is also pending in Mexico and anticipated in 2027.
