Fannie Mae published the results of its June 2025 National Housing Survey (NHS) on July 7, 2025. The Home Purchase Sentiment Index (HPSI) decreased by 3.7 points month-over-month to 69.8.

This decline also resulted in a 2.8-point decrease year-over-year for the HPSI. The index measures consumer sentiment toward housing, reflecting perceptions of homebuying, selling, and market conditions.

The dip in consumer housing sentiment suggests a potential softening in demand or increased caution among prospective homebuyers and sellers. This trend could indicate headwinds for future housing market activity and mortgage volumes for Fannie Mae.
