Fannie Mae published the results of its May 2025 National Housing Survey (NHS) on June 9, 2025. The Home Purchase Sentiment Index (HPSI), a key measure of consumer sentiment toward housing, increased by 4.3 points month-over-month to 73.5.

This significant rise in the HPSI also represents a 4.1-point increase year-over-year. The index provides insights into consumers' perceptions of homebuying, selling, and the overall housing market.

The notable improvement in consumer housing sentiment is a positive indicator for future housing market activity. Increased confidence can translate into greater demand for mortgages and support Fannie Mae's operational volumes.
