General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) and BAE Systems Hägglunds announced a teaming agreement to offer the BvS10 Beowulf platform for the Canadian Army’s Domestic Arctic Mobility Enhancement (DAME) program, a key initiative to replace the aging Bandvagn 206 fleet and improve mobility in the Canadian Arctic.

The DAME program seeks up to 170 Beowulf vehicles in four variants—Command Post, Troop Carrying, Cargo/Equipment Carrying, and Ambulance—under a contract expected to be awarded in 2027, with initial operational capacity projected for 2029‑2030. The Request for Proposals is slated for 2026, positioning the partnership to secure a significant share of the Canadian defense market.

The Beowulf is a dual‑body, amphibious all‑terrain vehicle derived from the BvS10 family, which is already in service in eight nations, six of them NATO members. Its drivetrain and amphibious capability have been proven in extreme Arctic conditions, making it a low‑risk, battle‑tested platform for the DAME program.

GDLS brings nearly 50 years of experience supporting the Canadian Armed Forces, including the Logistics Vehicle Modernization project that delivered over 1,000 light trucks and 500 heavy trucks. Its extensive in‑service support network across Canada will provide maintenance, logistics, and training for the Beowulf, ensuring long‑term operational readiness.

BAE Systems Hägglunds operates a hot production line in Sweden that can scale to meet Canadian demand. The company’s unified supply chain guarantees spare‑parts availability and supports the platform’s long‑term sustainability in the harsh Arctic environment.

Other contenders for the DAME contract include the U.S. Army’s Cold Weather All‑Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program and potential domestic platforms. The GDLS‑BAE teaming positions them to compete effectively by combining proven vehicle design with local support expertise.

Dave Haggerty, Vice President and General Manager of GDLS‑Canada, said the partnership “will provide Canada assurance of DAME’s success” and highlighted GDLS’s ability to tailor solutions to national requirements. Managing Director Tommy Gustafsson‑Rask added that the Beowulf’s “hot production line and unified supply chain” will ensure long‑term availability of spare parts and support for the Canadian Armed Forces.

The collaboration opens substantial revenue potential for GDLS and strengthens BAE’s presence in Canada, aligning with the country’s growing focus on Arctic security. By leveraging a proven platform and local support infrastructure, the partnership positions both companies to secure the DAME contract and future opportunities in the region.
