On April 30, 2025, GE Aerospace announced it will supply eight additional LM500 marine gas turbine engines for the Republic of Korea Navy's (ROKN) PKX-B Batch-II patrol boat program. These engines are designated for ships nine through twelve in the series.
This order follows previous selections for vessels one through four in March 2023 and vessels five through eight in March 2024, reaffirming the LM500's proven reliability and performance in demanding naval applications. The LM500 serves as the boost engine in a combined diesel and gas turbine (CODAG) configuration.
The engines will be manufactured in Lynn, MA, and delivered to Hanwha Aerospace, a long-standing in-country licensee for GE Aerospace, for assembly and testing. This extends GE Aerospace's role as a key propulsion provider for the ROKN, soon powering 77 ships with 156 marine gas turbines.
