On July 3, 2025, the U.S. Department of Commerce informed GE Aerospace that it was once again permitted to ship jet engines to China's COMAC. This decision lifts license suspensions that had been issued several weeks prior.
The reversal allows GE Aerospace to resume supplying its LEAP engines, which are produced by a joint venture with Safran, for COMAC's C919 aircraft. The C919 is designed to compete with narrow-body models from Airbus and Boeing.
This development removes a significant regulatory hurdle and reopens market access for GE Aerospace in China, positively impacting its LEAP engine program. The initial suspension had been a response to China's restrictions on critical mineral exports.
