GlobalFoundries Unveils $16 Billion U.S. Investment to Reshore Chip Manufacturing and Accelerate AI Growth

GlobalFoundries announced on June 4, 2025, plans to invest $16 billion to expand its semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging capabilities across its facilities in New York and Vermont. This substantial investment is a strategic response to the explosive growth in artificial intelligence.

The investment builds upon the company’s existing U.S. expansion plans, which already included over $13 billion, and adds an additional $3 billion for advanced research and development initiatives. These R&D efforts will focus on packaging innovation, silicon photonics, and next-generation GaN technologies.

GlobalFoundries is collaborating with major technology companies such as Apple, SpaceX, AMD, Qualcomm Technologies, NXP, and GM, who are committed to reshoring semiconductor production to the U.S. This initiative aims to strengthen U.S. semiconductor leadership and accelerate innovation in AI, aerospace, automotive, and high-performance communications.
