General Motors announced yesterday at a company event in New York that it has introduced a new "eyes‑off" autonomous driving system. The system will allow drivers to keep their eyes off the road and hands off the wheel, and it is part of the company’s Super Cruise driver‑assist platform.

The technology is a Level‑3 autonomous feature that uses LiDAR, radar and cameras to navigate highways. It will debut on the Cadillac Escalade IQ and is slated for broader rollout in 2028 across other models in GM’s lineup.

This launch expands GM’s autonomous‑driving portfolio, positioning the automaker against competitors such as Tesla and Mercedes. It also dovetails with GM’s partnership with Google Gemini AI, which will provide conversational features in future vehicles.
